A windshield wiper is a pivoting arm made up of a rubber blade called a wiper blade. The windshield wiper motor is an electrical device that will create rotational movement and allow the wiper to do this back and forth effect on the vehicle’s windshield for better visibility in bad weather. If the wipers do not turn on, have the wiper system checked as soon as possible to drive safely in inclement weather.

The wiper motor has two options: low speed and high speed. These two modes make it possible to adapt the windscreen wipers to the driver’s needs. If the weather is severe, the motorist will resort to high speed. The wipers will then sweep the windshield quickly. If, on the contrary, it is light rain, low speed will be sufficient to regain good visibility.

Why Windshield Wiper Motor Replacement Essential?

Windshield wipers allow you to keep your windshield clean and dry in bad weather conditions. When you pull the wiper stalk on the steering column to activate the wipers, the wiper motor starts to spin. This motor supplies power to the wiper blades, which move left and right across the windshield and remove water and debris.

When the wiper motor fails, nothing will be able to power the wiper blades, and they will stop working. As a result, your windshield won’t get cleaned or wiped, and you’ll have almost no visibility if you’re driving in the rain, snow, or dust.

When to replace Windshield Wiper Motor?

Here are a few symptoms with which will be able to know that there might be a fault in the wiper motor:

  • The wipers don’t move or move too slowly.
  • The windshield wipers do not turn on.
  • The wipers only operate at one speed.
  • The windscreen wipers can no longer be stopped or start by themselves
  • The wipers do not stop at the correct position.

However, you should remember that all wiper components should also be checked when the wiper motor is replaced. All facets of the wiper system should be lubricated.

How is Windshield Wiper Motor Replacement Done?

Here is how our mechanic replaces your vehicle’s windshield wiper motor:

  • The cowl covering the transmission assembly and the wiper motor is removed first.
  • Disconnect the transmission arm of the wiper from the wiper motor by removing the plug harness from the motor.
  • Remove the bolts that connect the transmission assembly and the wiper motor to the car’s body.
  • Replace the motor with the new one. In most cases, the plug harness is keyed so that it may only be inserted in one way. If this is not the case, the proper polarity must be followed.
  • Connect the motor to the vehicle’s body using bolts.
  • To set the park position, turn the motor on and off several times, then reconnect the linkage transmission assembly to the wiper motor.
  • Install all covers, cowlings, and other components, and test the motor’s operation on a wetted glass only.

Wrapping Up

It is safe as long as the atmospheric condition is clear with no ice, snow, or rain to drive with a windshield wiper motor issue. However, if the wiper motor fails, driving in poor weather is dangerous, and it may even be problematic in heavy rain, which may often totally block your view through the windshield. The windshield wiper system should always be in proper condition due to the unpredictability of the weather. If you face a wiper motor issue, get your vehicle inspected by a mechanic, post a request on Swezo and get quotes instantly.
